Serene Non-Invasive Prenatal Screening
Serene is the new non-invasive prenatal screening test that, using just a sample of the mother’s blood, can screen for trisomies 21, 18, and 13, as well as fetal sex, with a sensitivity of over 99%. In addition, it assesses the risk of the baby having other types of chromosomal abnormalities, as it analyzes all chromosomes.
Serene is available in two options1
| Designation | Serene | Serene Plus |
|---|---|---|
| Trisomies 21/18/13 | X | X |
| Fetal Sex | X | X |
| Sexual Aneuploidies | X | X |
| Microdeletion and Microduplication >7MB | - | X |
- Trisomies of chromosomes 21, 18, and 13, corresponding to Down, Edwards, and Patau syndromes, respectively.
- Aneuploidies of all chromosomes (presence/absence of an extra chromosome), including the sex chromosomes (XY).
- Microdeletion/microduplication syndromes (loss/gain of a small portion of a chromosome), with a resolution >7MB.
Valid for singleton pregnancies:
- Singleton
- Twin pregnancies 2
- In vitro fertilization or egg donation
1 Consult your doctor.
2 It is not possible to assess the risk for sex chromosome aneuploidies; however, if the Y chromosome is detected, the test does not allow for determining the sex of each fetus individually.
3 In the event of the loss of one of the fetuses (vanishing twin), the pregnancy will be treated, with regard to fetal DNA, as a twin pregnancy.
Performed starting in the 10th week of pregnancy. Results in 10 days.
A reliable test with high accuracy and precision
- Using next-generation mass sequencing (NGS).
- Risk and fetal fraction calculations are performed using a dual algorithm, increasing the accuracy of the analysis:
| Chromosomal Abnormality | Detection | False Positives |
|---|---|---|
| T21 (Down Syndrome) | >99% | 0.1% |
| T18 (Edwards Syndrome) | >99% | 0.1% |
| T13 (Patau syndrome) | >99% | 0.1% |
| Y Chromosome Detection | 100% | - |

Best Prenatal Diagnostic Platform
With the best prenatal diagnostic platform
The Serene test provides accurate results even in samples with low fetal fractions using CE-IVDR-marked software.
Quality Assurance:
The Serene test complies with the recommendations of leading scientific societies and specialty boards in medical genetics and obstetrics/gynecology:
- Directorate-General for Health (DGS);
- American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG);
- Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM);
- International Society for Prenatal Diagnosis (ISPD);
Serene is an innovative, state-of-the-art prenatal screening test.
Results should always be interpreted in the context of all clinical information, and a high-risk result should be confirmed through an invasive diagnostic test.
Nationwide Network of Laboratories (Where to Take the Test)
Information about this test will be available through the Germano de Sousa Group’s extensive nationwide network of laboratories and collection points, as well as at the many obstetrics and fetal ultrasound offices and clinics with which the Group collaborates.
